My Wishes for Christmas

In a few more days it would be Christmas. Hard to miss it if you're one of the million shoppers clogging the malls this week. Good luck getting a cab going home (& waiting for hours) or not getting overcharged by Uber or Grab for a short ride. Lesson learned: Shop early (you should be done Christmas shopping one week before Christmas). But I know there are still some people doing last-minute holiday shopping. They'd be like ...

There are Christmas songs now playing on the radio & mall loudspeakers (as early as September, come to think of it) to add to the festive atmosphere with classic snippets like "walking in a winter wonderland" & "dashing through the snow" or "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas". Winter in Manila? Let's not dream of that bcoz that'll truly make the traffic more messy than it is. Which brings me to some of my Christmas wishes.

I do wish that traffic (locally known as "carmageddon") would ease up around Metro Manila during the holidays (Mr. President, kindly change your BUILD BUILD BUILD program to BUILD FAST FAST FAST kung pwede) ... that the turkey I ordered would arrive in time for noche buena ... that no more kids would die due to Dengvaxia vaccination ... that there'd be no more conspiring to destabilize the government ... that wars would never start in any corner of our world ... that no lonely soul would spend Christmastime alone ... and as Miss Congeniality said in the movie, I do wish for WORLD PEACE. Of course I liken that wish to my lose-20-pounds-this-Christmas wish. Fat chance, right? Oh, ye of little faith. We can all dream.

All across America (and other countries) there'd be long lines of homeless people queuing up to get their free hot Christmas meal on Christmas eve or Christmas day in homeless shelters, Salvation Army, some churches and charitable restaurants (even Muslim-owned ones).

I wish our local churches here would also do that for the less fortunate. I think praying for the poor is fine but it would seem like an empty gesture if churches don't follow that up with concrete actions. Feeding the poor I think is much better than fine.

God bless these children

Here's an example of what you can do to make a difference this Christmas.

No man should be alone on Christmas day. If you know anybody who will be alone on Christmas day, make their day & invite them to your home. I believe the world is full of good people but if you can't find one, then BE ONE.

Santa, if you're reading this, here is one wish I'm asking you to grant me. Not much, I hope:

We should always remember that Christmas is for the children. Come to think of it, there's a child in all of us anyway. We celebrate Christmas because of one particular CHILD, who would be King, being born for all of us. He was a GIFT from above. It wouldn't be asking too much if, in His Honor, we become child-like for at least one day or for one week -- no hating, no prejudices, no corruption, no discrimination, no fighting, no lying, no stealing, no raping, no drinking & driving, no illegal drug-using, no badmouthing, no politicking, no swearing, no hurting each other, and so on. I wish no one is ever too old to practice that. I know it's not going to be easy letting go. But try nyo pa rin. You just might like it. Release the negativity you've been holding on to and breathe in the good. This Christmas, make it all about LOVE. That sounded like a line from a Hallmark greeting card. ;). I like what one man wished for this Christmas: "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. Merry Christmas everyone! God bless us with peace." Perhaps God heard his wish & granted it. Take a look:

Lastly, I wish you all the peace & joy of the season. Hard for me to say, "Be joyous!" when deep down inside I'm still hurting becoz of my mom's passing. Be that as it may, I do wish for your holidays be filled with joy and mirth. HO! HO! HO! ... not HU! HU! HU!
