The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently revoked Rappler's corporate registration after the latter was determined to have violated the constitutional prohibition on foreign ownership and management of mass media, among other laws. There are actually more than one case -- another one is being investigated by the DOJ.
If I may borrow Jim Paredes' words, "What a great day!"
Here is the 29-page SEC decision on Rappler: http://cdn.manilatimes.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/SEC-decision-on-rappler.pdf

How does that song go?: Hit the road, Jack...and doncha come back no mo' no mo'
Hit the road, Jack and doncha come back no more.
And so goes the song...

PM Dizon Law firm also released a clear detailed analysis on why registration of Rappler as a Philippine media corporation was revoked: Why did the SEC revoke Rappler’s registration?
Here's a snippet of the article:
Hindi daw sila mass media company? If Rappler insists that it isn’t a media company, then it isn’t part of the press. And if that is the case, then all this screeching about an attack on freedom of the press is plain poppycock (even more so now!). So ano sila kung ganun? Bloggers lang? Mocha, ihanda mo ang latigo.
Maria Ressa said the SEC approved the PDRs. SEC chair Teresita Herbosa however countered that what was approved was the issuance of PDRs as an exempt transaction, not the validity of any of its provisions.

HeheHe...Go Teddy Boy go! Slap away! LoL

Omidyar Network really has nothing to do with Rappler's operation or management, right Ressa? So why is she meeting with Omidyar in some far flung country? Chika chika lang sila siguro. Yeah, I believe that!!!

Sabi ng Rappler & their supporters what happened to Rappler is curtailment or stifling of the freedom of the press. Excuse me po pero currently there are 436 TV broadcast stations, 411 AM & over 1,000 FM radio stations, plus 400 newspapers & numerous magazines all over our republic FREELY operating. Nobody is being silenced. Rappler is being penalized for accepting foreign funding, which is a VIOLATION of the Constitution. Hard to believe there is no PRESS FREEDOM in our country. Sorry, wala akong BARYA. I don't buy that at all. The usual suspects are also saying that Duterte had a hand in the closure of Rappler by influencing the SEC. Yan din ang sabi ni Ressa. Of course she won't name her source. Mahilig talaga si Ressa sa hearsay.

RAPPLER SHRIEKING OUT FOR PRESS FREEDOM? Basket? WE'RE THEY JAILED? Can they show a SINGLE JOURNALIST who's in jail for criticizing the government?? Stop fooling the people, RAPPLER -- you broke the law. No ifs, ands or buts. The case has been there since last year. The SEC just announced their decision. Take note that there are 5 commissioners on the case. 4 are Aquino appointees. Only 1 is a Digong appointee. 4 decided against Rappler. The majority could have easily overpowered that lone vote from that Duterte appointee to stop the revocation of Rappler's permit. But they didn't. So perhaps these commissioners saw a compelling reason to vote against Rappler. Only one, Mr. Viterbo, a cousin of Mar Roxas, did not vote against Rappler. But neither did he defend Rappler. Why? Coz anyone worth his salt knows when to stop yakking when clearly Rappler is indefensible.
No amount of explanations, no matter how true will change the minds of close-minded people. They only believe explanations that concur with their biases. The yellows will stick to their belief. The only way to persuade them is to pummel their heads with a mallet. Shameless to the end. This is why corruption continues. No form of government will protect us against people, rich or poor, who believe the rules don't apply to them. Nobody should be above the law, especially those who have the opportunity, means, and desire to violate it. Until that happens the Philippines will always be a backwater.
Kaya I suggest that Rappler campaign to have the current constitution be modified or revamped. But wouldn't that be ironic? Rappler & Digong on the same side or same page? he he he.

Cue the music please: (song) "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina" Just change 'Argentina' to 'Pilipinas'.
Tama na ang ngawa at iyak. Rappler is free to contest the ruling. Rappler is not constrained to raise the matter to the Highest Tribunal. That is how the process works. Emotional appeals only make it seem like they don’t have a case. *sigh*

Presidential spokesman, Harry Roque, told Rappler they can still cover Malacanang but only as BLOGGERS now. Rappler is no longer part of the Malacanang Press Corps. Ang guess who Rappler need to get their accreditation from? AHEM! Mocha Uson, that's who. Lunok lang ng PRIDE sa tamang panahon. Victory is sweet! Sometimes you're up. Other times you're down. Karma is not a beach. It's a bi+ch!

Ito yung isang fake news ng Rappler:

Galit na galit si Digong when he confronted one of the Rappler reporters (Pia Ranada) about this allegation. He told them to their face that they peddle FAKE NEWS. He gave them 24 hours to prove that Bong Go did what Rappler alleged. If Rappler can present a scintilla of evidence against Bong Go, Digong said he will fire him right away. Bong Go also volunteered to resign if they can prove their allegation.

Hanggang ngayon Pia Ranada is silent about her response to Pres. Digong's challenge. Di na ako magtataka. Fake news is fake news.

Tick! Tock! Tick! Tock! Still no proof, Pia? And no apology? Ganyan ba ang biased media? Why, I outta...! The arrogance!
These Rapplerettes seemed to be doing a Miss Universe pose. Are they hoping to land a stint with FHM? Soshal! *slow clap* ... Sali na lang sila sa Bb. Pilipinas. Baka manalo pa kayo. hehehehe
The New York Times, the BBC, Al-Jazeera, and other foreign news sites “reporting” on the Rappler shuttering by SEC seem to be merely regurgitating what they are told by Ressa’s shills. What a lazy lying bunch! They claim press freedom is dead in our country. LoL! No surprise there. They conveniently skipped the fact that Rappler violated the Constitution and Anti-Dummy Law. Again, these news media organizations have chosen the wrong argument to support. The Rapplerettes (the ladies in the above pic) don’t need to be Rappler employees to enjoy “free speech” and “free expression”. The only thing that's dead in Pinas is Rappler.
Here's another FAKE NEWS made by Rappler:

Creative writing lang ba ito?
More dubious news from Rappler:

When it rains, it pours. Meron pa pala silang isa pang kaso of criminal nature which is still under investigation:

From Inquirer.net
Didn't Ressa say they want to take back the internet & social media? How's that going for you, Ressa? Instead, you got owned. BILIS, pull out the VICTIM CARD, Ressa!! Annoy us some more with your drama.

A piece of advice for Ressa: it's always worth remembering that NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW not even the media! We are a nation of LAWS. So umayos kayo. He also allowed Inquirer to skip paying taxes for decades.
Just follow the law Maria. That's all and do not hide you blatant violation under the cover of Press Freedom. Breaking the law and Press Freedom are two different issues. Do not use the other to cover your liability. The choice to disobey the Constitution was yours and is an abuse of freedom. You're still free to publish articles anyway.

Nigel Locke, a foreigner (he could be an Aussie, Brit or even American) living in the Philippines, posted this in his Facebook page:

This foreigner should be given an honorary Filipino citizenship. Thank you, Mr. Locke!
Is the case against Rappler about free speech suppression? I don't think so. There are valid reasons why they are in hot waters at the moment.

Sec. Andanar also said that legal measures, such as Freedom of Information and Administrative Order No. 1 for media security, have been implemented by the current administration to avoid media oppression/suppression.

Been boycotting Rappler for several years now. No space for crap in my life.

Been reading comments about the Inquirer deleting pro-DU30 comments but publishing only anti-DU30 ones. Ayaw ng media kinakalaban sila ng mga netizens pero gusto nila ng PRESS FREEDOM (but they won't accord the same freedom to their readers to express themselves). Kalurkey! Hypocrisy to the max!
