FATTY LIVER is actually relatively common and causes few to no symptoms in many people with the condition. However, in some cases this state of the liver causes inflammation and scarring of the liver itself. Fatigue, pain in the upper right abdomen, and weight loss are the other common symptoms.
Fatty liver comes from fried foods, fruits, honey, sugar and especially alcoholic beverages. If you have been diagnosed with fatty liver disease, you should consider making dietary and lifestyle changes as well as incorporating nutritional supplements, like milk thistle, lipotropics, vitamin E, and turmeric in your diet.
According to the LiverCleansing-Diet.org, there are two basic forms of fatty liver:
(1.) non-alcoholic fatty liver
(2.) alcoholic fatty liver
If your condition is classified as non-alcoholic, it is caused by your liver’s inability to appropriately and effectively break down the fats in your body, which leads to build up in your liver tissue.
If the condition is the alcoholic form, the illness is caused by drinking too much alcohol, which leads to liver toxicity from the toxins in alcohol. Other common causes of this form of fatty liver include being overweight, having a poor diet, getting too much iron in your diet, and having hepatitis C.
GRANULATED LECITHIN
The capsule soft gel does not work. Buy the GRANULATED FORM. The dose is 1 tablespoon twice a day. Takes about 1 to 3 months to reduce liver fat to normal.
Taurine
This is an amino acid.
DOSE: 1/2 teaspoon twice a day in a glass of water.
Taken between 1 to 2 months. If it's serious then 2 months.
Milk Thistle
Milk Thistle is an herbal supplement that detoxifies and protects vital liver functions and more.
DOSE: 900 mg taken twice a day at meals. The total dosage per day is 1800 mg.
The University of Maryland Medical Center lists milk thistle as an effective remedy for a number of issues related to your liver and gallbladder. This herb contains a flavonoid known as silymarin that helps protect your liver cells from toxins. Milk thistle is also known for restoring damaged cells and reducing inflammation. You can use this remedy in the form of tea, liquid extract, tincture, or capsule.
Lipotropics
According to LiveStrong.com, lipotropics are another effective treatment for fatty liver disease. These compounds are complex nutrients that promote the metabolism of fat in your body. This process also helps detox your liver and remove buildup of excess fats in your body. Some of the most effective lipotropic nutrients are choline, methionine, and betaine, which you can typically find in capsule or supplement form.
Choline
Choline bitartrate is sufficient for any liver benefits of choline.
Choline is a water-soluble vitamin-like essential nutrient mostly used for either its cognitive boosting properties (turning into acetylcholine, the learning neurotransmitter) or as a liver health agent, able to reduce fatty liver buildup. Found in high amounts in eggs, the yolks in particular.
DOSE: Typically a dose of 250 mg to 500 mg is used for general health purposes once daily. Too high of a dose at any given time may give the user a headache. It is suggested that doses start out at 50 -100 mg daily and that users adjust upwards in accordance with their tolerance.

Vitamin E
A known antioxidant, vitamin E also treats the condition. This nutrient helps protect your body from free radical damage, supports your immune system, and prevents more serious complications, like fibrosis and cirrhosis.
Turmeric
Research suggests that turmeric is effective for treating fatty liver because of its strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. You can use this remedy as a spice for your food or in the form of a capsule or tincture.
To help metabolize those fats in the liver and make for energy, take a supplement of Choline/Inositol as recommended on label.
These treatments in conjunction with dietary changes should help you cleanse your liver and support more effective fat metabolism throughout your body.
Other remedies from Earth Clinic readers:
Methionine
Testimonial:
I have tried all the herbs and nutrients prescribed w/ marginal results. The amino acid Methionine has been the one nutrient to finally help me w/ this disorder. I take 500 or sometimes 1000mg daily w/ vitamin B-12.
Trimethylglycine (TMG)
Testimonial:
I am using it and it seems to be helping.
This has been found to reduce homocysteine by 10% in persons with normal levels or by 20-40% in persons with elevated homocysteine levels. Homocysteine is known to be elevated in persons with cardiovascular health issues and is a biomarker of cardiovascular complications (ie. when homocysteine is elevated then the subject is also at a higher risk for other problems). It is thought that reducing homocysteine is protective of the heart, but a direct link between TMG supplementation and cardiovascular protection in humans has not yet been established.
TMG goes well with folic acid (additive in reducing homocysteine) & riboflavin (Vitamin B2) which will reduce fishy odor in breath and body secretions which may occur with TMG supplementation.
The standard doses that seen to be used for dietary supplementation are in the range of 2,500-6,000mg taken in two divided doses daily, and taking said doses alongside a meal does not appear to be required. This is the dosage range which reliably reduces homocysteine, and is the dosage range where (unreliable and minimal) benefits to physical performance have been noted. When the subject appears to be resistant to the 6 g dose, the dosage can be increased up to 20 g daily; this does appear to be moderately well tolerated (like any osmolyte, it may cause diarrhea in this high of a dose).
L-Carnitine is also indicated for fatty liver. This is a fat-buster.
SAM-e
Phosphatidylcholine
ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid)
300 mg taken twice a day at mealtimes. Dr. Berkson recommends 600 mg. In 300 mg in A.M. and 300 in P.M. Remember the ALA solution has the potential to lower blood sugar -- if this happens a teaspoon of honey and a protein bar will be helpful.
ALA is being praised as a superior antioxidant by Bruce Ames, Ph. D. Of University of California, who may be the most respected researcher of antioxidants in the world. For that purpose he recommends to take 250 mg, along with 500 mg of Carnitine. They market a commercial mix of the two called Juvenon that Dr. Weil sells on his web site though you could probably buy the items cheaper on your own.
ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar)
This encourages healthy liver functioning and reduces liver inflammation. Use it 30 minutes before a meal to help metabolize the fat. One tablespoon, 2x to 3x a day in a glass of water with raw honey, as well as a number of other natural things to detox.
Please keep in mind when drinking some things like powerful herbs or Apple Cider Vinegar for cleansing that you must drink plenty of water to prevent the expelled liver toxins from settling into the kidneys. This can create painful kidney stones. You will notice that the urine turns darker yellow from the toxins, but this also can be an indication that you probably need more water to help pass the toxins out without poisoning the rest of your body.
Selenium
200 micrograms taken twice a day with meals.
CAUTION! Do not exceed 4 Brazil nuts per day. Brazil nuts have the highest levels of selenium of any known food in the world. This is great for boosting immunity in the proper amount, however, selenium in higher than recommended quantities can eventually result in dementia or other selenium poisoning symptoms. 4 nuts per day is a very safe and effective amount.
Dr Berkson also uses Low Dose Naltrexone, Cysteine and a full vitamin and mineral protocol as well in his remedy. Also taking all the B vitamins daily is important because ALA tends to use up the B vitamns in the body.
Low dose naltrexone (LDN) should be taken once a day in the evening with water. Dosage is between 1.75 mgs to 4.5 mgs per day. LDN info here:
http://www.lowdosenaltrexone.org/gazorpa/LDNFAQ.html
Dr Berkson also uses ALA by IV in his own therapy at his clinic. So if you are interested in arranging an appointment at his clinic in Las Crusces, New Mexico then see this link:

Kelp Fatty liver causes you to have a very slow metabolism. By taking kelp will speed up your metabolism and get your weight off.
Lemon
Lemon contains high amounts of vitamin C, which helps the liver produce glutathione. Glutathione neutralizes toxins, thus lemon helps the liver with detoxification.
Also, a 2014 study published in the journal Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology found that a compound present in lemons called naringenin helps ease liver inflammation.
Squeeze the juice of ½ lemon in a glass of water. Drink it 2 or 3 times a day for several weeks.
Alternatively, add 2 to 3 chopped lemons to a jar of water. Drink this water at regular intervals.
Artichoke
Testimonial:
(As posted in EarthClinic) From what I've read, it is caused by small cholesterol particles. Avoid white death by cutting out flour, sugar, rice and potatoes. Eat one ingredient foods. My pharmacist recommended milk thistle with artichokes. The artichokes scrub the liver clean! I also ordered salads with artichokes at restaurants. I've tried chlorella too, and it works well.
Carrot Juice
Testimonial:
(Posted in EarthClinic) Artichoke is very good for liver. For fatty liver disease, drink Carrot Juice 200 ml a day. It will cleanse the liver even without your knowing.
Beet Protocol
Read about the mini beet protocol (aka MBP) here:
Proceed with small amounts of beet juice at first as it seems to be quite a powerful cleanser for some people.
Cayenne pepper: 4 pills equal a teaspoon. This will detox your liver and also helps to speed up your metabolism a lot.
TESTIMONIAL:
I take 2000 mg kelp and 4 cayenne pepper pills 4 times a day...I tried many diffrent remedies. The kelp and cayenne pepper are the only things that helped me get my metabolism moving again. Every one needs to judge for themselves on what to take.

Papaya
Papaya aids in rapidly burning dietary fats.
Take this 2 times a day for 1 month.
Eat a slice of ripe papaya with honey once daily.
Include raw papaya soup and salad in your diet.
Turmeric
According to a 2008 study published in the journal China Pharmaceuticals, turmeric can help prevent fatty liver disease. However, more research is still needed.
Turmeric improves the body’s ability to digest fats so they do not accumulate in the liver. It also aids the liver detoxification process.
Mix ¼ teaspoon of turmeric powder in 1 to 2 glasses of water and boil it. Drink it twice daily for a couple of weeks.
You can also mix ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder in a glass of warm milk and drink it once daily.
Turmeric supplements are available as capsules and tinctures. Talk to your doctor to determine the proper dosage for your condition.
Licorice
According to a 2012 study published in the journal Phytotherapy Research, licorice root extract helps decrease transaminase activities of enzymes called ALT (alanine aminotransferase) and AST (aspartate aminotransferase) in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. It also prevents liver damage due to heavy metals and toxins.
Add ½ teaspoon of licorice root to a cup of hot water. Cover and allow it to steep for 5 to 10 minutes. Strain, add a little honey and drink this tea 2 times a day.
Alternatively, mix together 1 tablespoon of licorice powder and 2 teaspoons of honey and have this once daily for several weeks.
If taking licorice supplements, consult your doctor first as they may interfere with certain blood pressure, diabetes and corticosteroid medications.
According to TED of Bangkok (from EarthClinic.com):
Fatty liver is easily treated. It just takes 2 months before they become normal again. Lecithin to be taken is 1 tablespoon twice a day, and maybe taurine 1/2 teaspoon twice a day in a glass of water. Taken between 1 to 2 months. Assuming it's serious then 2 months and no alcohol and no fructose (the source usually is fruits, honey, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup and hidden in ketchups and drinks. If liver cirrhosis is a problem too, then take selenium (400 mcg per day is a safe dose).
Cut out sugar, sugar substitutes, artificial sweeteners, honey, syrup, molasses and fructose/fruits.

Not a pretty picture!
