Another American Tragedy

Another massacre directed at school kids occurred yet again in another American city. This time it happened in Parkland, Broward County in Florida. Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School now joins the ranks of Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, Columbine and too many other sites of American carnage. It was the 17th shooting at a school in 2018, and the 30th mass shooting this year. Just last year, Parkland was named Florida's safest city. How ironic!
17 lives were snuffed out that day by a former student armed with AR-15, an assault rifle, and wearing a Trump hat that bears the message "Make America Great Again". Committing murder is what will make America great again? What is it about white guys or boys getting so pissed over? They seem to be the ones who are guilty of committing mass shootings with high-caliber rapid-fire weapons. There's also an all-time high rate on suicides among white males. Girls aren’t pulling the triggers. Why is that? American boys seem to be broken. To deal with what breaks them it seems their only recourse is to rage or to withdraw. Rage is why they commit school shootings. Withdrawal is perhaps why boys commit suicide more than girls. In both cases, American boys are forced to deal with their problem possibly with deadly consequences.
Why do they want to own such deadly weapons and why some own so many? Those who own a closet full of guns that could kill 50 to 100 people at a time feel oppressed when anybody suggests any rules for their guns. Sad. Who are they afraid of that is making them crazy and compels them to arm themselves? Should the cops start profiling angry white guys? Take a look at the stats on mass shootings in America here:

Overwhelmingly, the mass shooters in the U.S. are WHITE and MALES. Australia, Scotland, Norway, Canada, Germany, & Finland have had occasional horrific mass shootings. These countries have just as high a proportion of mentally ill people as the U.S. does, and just as many angry people against their government. But only America has so many series of gun killings. Guns are so easy to get in America. The government need to stop making owning or purchasing a gun, specially a high-powered guns that are usually used for war or combat, so easy to get.

The NRA has been actively commenting on the Parkland massacre on social media, arguing that the only way to prevent future tragedies is more guns.

The NRA’s TV arm has launched a vocal attack in the days after the Florida school massacre, accusing the media of wanting to take away people’s right to bear arms. NRATV host Grant Stinchfield suggested editors and reporters hoped for another shooting just so they could push their gun control agenda. HOPED? That's their spin? The NRA is also now engaging in FAKE NEWS? The NRA was a major backer of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. Nikolas Cruz, the 19-year-old gunman responsible for murdering 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, was, according to the Associated Press, a member of the school’s four-person varsity marksmanship team which was trained to shoot more accurately with the help of a $10,000 grant from the NRA in 2016. The NRA declined to comment on the donation. In 2015, the NRA Foundation gave $2.2 million in similar grants promoting gun use to schools around the country. These facts make me just gasp in horror at what the NRA is doing.

Politicians who have done everything possible to oppose changes in gun laws are often the major recipients of NRA contributions. Again they say they are "deeply saddened" & offer “thoughts and prayers” to the victims. Those thoughts & prayers will not bring back the dead or prevent future mass shootings. Talk is cheap. The people need more than politicians' words and condolences. The people demand much much more. Mitch McConnell, the 75-year-old senator from Kentucky, leader of the Republicans in the Senate for the past decade led a filibuster of the measures Obama had proposed and a majority in the Senate supported -- gun-control measures that had support of more than 50 senators and of a much larger proportion of the public in opinion polls. The money and ferocity of the NRA were behind Mitch. He was the face, instrument, and leader of the effort to say 'No' to any gun control proposals. Now he too is “deeply saddened” by this new school massacre in Florida. Mr. Majority Leader, by your works, history will know you.
Five weeks after the election, on December 12, a disturbed 20-year-old with an AR-15 (same gun used by the Florida killer) went to the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, and shot dead 20 little six- and seven-year-old children, plus six staff members. At the time, you would think that this despicable crime done on the very young would be enough to change the public mind and public policy about dealing with guns. But that didn't happen, thanks to the NRA-supported politicians. Hopefully this time it would be different. How many more times do we have to bleed to feel the pain?
Overwhelming majorities of Americans now are coming together around common-sense reform on gun laws, like background checks that will make it harder for criminals to get their hands on a gun. The people are uniting for the students. See below what the students are doing to fight back for their safety & survival. Anti-NRA sentiment is spreading and intensifying. People are angry at the Republicans for their support for the NRA. The shooter was able to buy a gun at 19. The legal age to buy a gun under federal US law is 18. You can't even buy alcohol/beer unless you are 21.

"Republicans will never do anything on gun control," says former GOP Rep. David Jolly. Jolly also said Republicans refuse to enact any gun control laws, even after a member of Congress was shot at a baseball practice last year. WoW! HOPELESS!!

The NRA gave over $31 MILLION to Trump to get him elected.

Does Trump look like a man who prays? Hard for me to believe that. Perhaps prey on women, but not pray for the children.

The PLOT thickens...

WOW, the NRA is racist? Nobody saw that coming! Many people are now referring to the NRA as a terr0rist 0rganization.

Shameless!

MS-13 is the gang that Trump mentioned and slammed in his last State of the Union address in which he said many of the gang's members took advantage of glaring loopholes in the U.S. immigration laws to enter the country as unaccompanied alien minors and then ended up murdering American citizens. It seems that, basing on the stats above, the NRA is contributory to more American deaths than MS-13. Trump is barking up the wrong tree. "MS" stands for Mara Salvatrucha, which roughly translates to “Salvadoran street posse.” The gang originated in Los Angeles, California, US in the 1980s & most of its members are of Central American origin, principally El Salvador.

Owning a gun should now be treated as a matter of public safety.
What a hypocrite! But what else can we expect from Bill O'Reilly?

A few days later after the school massacre, the Florida State House voted against holding hearings on a gun violence bill, which to me is a cold-hearted response to the tragedy and an insult to the students who lived thru the ordeal. Same thing happened after the Sandy Hook massacre. How legislators could ignore those anguished parents and children who lobbied in person on Capitol Hill is truly appalling. Once you ignore child murder how much lower can you go? The Republican response to the Florida carnage was badmouthing the surviving students who are speaking out and spearheading the movement to push for common-sense gun laws. What a bunch of NRA mercenaries the Republicans are!
